History of Dreams

A History of Dreams:

One I was interested in exploring myth in this series. I began with Thetis, mother of Achilles. Prisoner 2487 is a mother’s tearful dreams of her imprisoned son. Icarus, is yet another mother’s son, who would not be told.

Two With this set, I referred to familiar stories from Spain—Washington Irving’s Tales of the Alhambra; the Complete Works of Santa Teresa of Ávila; the final aria from Bizet’s Carmen; and a piece inspired by Carlos Saura’s film Blood Wedding.

Three These five prints are pure Spanish iconography—split realities, the gypsy singing canto hondo, the toreador, a dancer, and a dwarf-- recalling Velázquez’s fondness for portraying dwarves at Court.
